BMK: Action on the occasion of International Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day members of Bea ManClubs in Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Mostarwere giving out small boxes containing biographies of girls and women who made positive changes in our country to the citizens of Banja Luka.

CARE International’s partner organizations Youth Power, Perpetuum Mobile – Institute for Youth and Community Development and AssociationXY, together with their Be a Man Clubs fromMostar, Banja Luka and Sarajevo organized an action on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Young women and men from three cities – Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar plannedtogetherthe action whose aim was to promote girls and women who made positive changes in local communities but also in the entire country. Members of Be a ManClubscreated boxes with congratulationmessages on International Women’s Day in which they put short biographies of 20 girls/women from allBosnia and Herzegovina. Over 1,000 boxes were given out to the citizens of Banja Luka who were present at the Krajina Square.

Also, young people from these clubs were part of “Osmomarš” (“eight-march”), a march which was organized with the aim to draw attention to the numerous challenges and problems that the women in our country were facing today.

To remind, the International Women’s Day (abbreviated Women’s Day) is celebrated on 8 March every year. On that day economic, political and social achievements of women are celebrated. The first International Women’s Day was celebrated on the 28 February 1909 in the USAby the Declaration adopted by the Socialist Party of America. Among other relevant historic events, it also commemorates the fire in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York in 1911, when over 140 women died.

The action is part of the project “Promoting Healthier Lifestyles among Youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina by Challenging Gender Stereotypes”. The project is supported by the Swiss Government and the OAK Foundation and implemented with the support of CARE International Balkans.
