CARE International Balkans is an equal opportunity employer and is seeking a qualified candidate for its Office in Belgrade, Serbia, to fill the position of Project Coordinator for its project “Men and Boys as Partners in Promoting Gender Equality and the Prevention of Youth Extremism and Violence in the Balkans”funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation and OAK Foundation. 

Project Summary

In cooperation with 9 regional partner NGO, the project objective is to enable positive and peaceful societies for young people in Serbia, Kosovo*, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, that support gender equality and decrease interpersonal violence and its extremism. The project’s specific objective is to improve Youth NGOs and government capacities to integrate Program Youth – Life Skills Educational Curriculum in current educational and youth policy strategies and strengthen governmental and civil society efforts related to inclusion of youth vulnerable to extremism. This project aims at scaling up and mainstreaming earlier achievements related to the implementation of the Gender Transformative Life Skills program, or short Program Y, via targeted advocacy and a close cooperation with relevant stakeholder through the support of movement / coalition building through the development of new alliances that engage parents and citizens in supporting gender equality focused life skills education program. In Serbia, this project is widely knows by its popular campaign Be a Men – Change the Rules. 

The Position

The Project Coordinator will assume delegated responsibility for the coordination of this project mainly in Serbia, but also support Project Manager for coordination of all project activities on regional level. S/he will direct and coordinate activities of the assigned project so as to further the attainment of its established goal and objective. S/he will coordinate the activities with the local partner organization in Serbia and also per needs basis with other project partners in the region and will lead communication and cooperation with the relevant institutions in Serbia. S/he will be responsible for all coordination aspects relating to the project including the provision technical and administrative assistance to project partners. The Project Coordinator will be responsible to ensure compliance with the Austrian Development Cooperation and CARE International rules and procedures, maintain project documentation filing system and generate the highest quality project reports. S/he is expected to travel occasionally to countries where project is being implemented. 

Qualifications/Skills

  • University degree/diploma in social sciences 
  • Minimum 5 years of (I)NGO project coordination level experience, preferably in coordinating project activities dealing with youth and gender equality and violence prevention
  • Experience in cooperating with educational institutions and good knowledge of educational systems in the Serbia
  • Tact and diplomacy in dealing with diversity and variety of stakeholders 
  • Preferably knowledge and experience related to engaging men and boys in gender equality promotion
  • Good knowledge of administrative and financial procedures related to project implementation
  • Proven presentation skills and experience in project M&E. 
  • Excellent command of oral and written local and English language and excellent reporting skills, both in English and Serbian languages. 
  • Excellent computer skills. 
  • Clean and up to date driver’s license, category B with extensive driving experience.
  • Personality and skills to work proactively and under tight deadlines and as part of a big regional team. 

Conditions:

  • Position location in Belgrade, Serbia 
  • Reports to Project Manager
  • The selected candidate will be offered a one-year contract 
  • Salary and benefits package in accordance with CARE International Balkans’ salary scale and  commensurate with experience.
