Yoga is a powerful tool to deal with the stress of uncertainty and isolation that we are dealing at the moment, as well as to maintain physical well-being. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought, and action by bringing us closer to the world and the nature around us.
Therefore, Be a Man Club decided to promote practicing Yoga on the day dedicated to this technique. On the 21st of June, at 18:00 Live on Facebook, we invited a teacher who is certified from Yoga School Kosovo, Bujar Prestreshi to share with our followers the benefits of yoga and some basic exercises for beginners.
Usually, we are used to seeing women practicing yoga. In fact, it is considered as one of the professions dominated by women. The female to male ratio of trainers has been upwards of 30 to 1. Stereotypes that usually hear are: guys are not flexible enough for yoga, it’s not a tough enough workout or it’s just not a manly thing to do. Young Men Initiative one more time proved how gender stereotypes are not necessarily true and should never be pursued or allowed to stop us from dreams and passions that we want to achieve. We could’ve seen on this even how a man perfected yoga exercises to train others as well. With these exercises, he managed to relieve from back pain to anxiety and depression.
Bujar dedicated the first minutes of the event to the theoretical part of yoga. “It is proved that to maintain a healthy and peaceful life, yoga plays an important role. The reasons why it should be part of everyone’s life, are as well the healing that it gives from physical and psychological issues. In the 21st Century where technology distracts us all the time and creates stress, our muscles stay very tense and cannot function properly in their everyday activities. With a little time investment and a little physical exercise, the benefits are huge. Ankles will be very relaxed. Yoga is a tradition for thousands of years and it started on the east, on Asia, to be practiced today all over the world. The good thing is that it doesn’t take much time. Even for 30 minutes in the morning or evening, you will feel very good and this routine will return to your lifestyle” he said.
In the remaining minutes, he showed some basic exercises that can be practiced by everyone. They are very easy but very effective. The message conveyed was that by practicing those few exercises shown by the teacher, your breathing will improve, back and neck pain will go away, and all at no cost at all. Invest in your physical and mental well-being because you will enjoy its benefits every day!
This event was part of the project “Men and Boys as Partners in Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence and Extremism among Youth in the Balkans” implemented by CARE International Balkans in partnership with YMCA in Kosovo and SIT – Center for Counseling, Social Services and Research supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and Oak Foundation.
