With schools and youth centres closed across the country due to the coronavirus epidemic, Status M, our partner organisation is finding new ways to keep promoting gender equality and non-violence to young people. Last week they launched our Eggplants in Pyjamas podcast as a way to stay in touch with and reach out to young people when face-to-face meetings are no longer an option.
The podcast is developed and produced by young people as a space for fun and frank discussions about issues which matter to young people in these times of crisis. Status M young volunteers identify pressing topics related to gender equality, mental health, violence and other issues which affect young people’s lives during the lockdown. They are joined by experts who offer interesting views and advice concerning issues such as social distancing, equitable division of care work, or the rise of domestic violence. The goal is not only to inform or educate but also to inspire meaningful conversations and offer support to young people.
The pilot episode of Eggplants in Pyjamas focusing on Status M and its values and activities went online last Saturday and new episodes will air weekly. Next one will offer insights on what should we be aware of when it comes to the increased use of pornography during the lockdown. The activity is implemented by Status M within the framework of the Young Men Initiative II – The Men and Boys as Partners in Promoting Gender Equality and prevention of Youth Extremism and Violence in the Western Balkans project, supported by CARE International Balkans, Austrian Developing Cooperation and Oak Foundation.
