On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the first workshop as part of the practical training for final-year students of the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Džemal Bijedić in Mostar was held, within the courses Methodology of Teaching Psychology and Sociology and Methodology of Civic Education. The aim of this practical training is to equip future teachers with the skills to independently plan, organize, and conduct educational workshops in secondary schools.
During the introductory session, students were familiarized with the basics of the workshop-based approach, the objectives of the practical training, and the role of educators in modern teaching. Through interactive activities and group work, participants analyzed the qualities, values, and skills that make a good educator and discussed challenges and possible solutions when working with young people.
Particular attention was drawn to the Program Y presentation, which introduced students to contemporary methods for addressing topics such as gender equality, non-violent communication, and positive youth development. In the practical part, students learned how to use various techniques and tools in education – from energizers and brainstorming to role-playing and poster work – and, through mini demonstrations, became familiar with the structure of a workshop and methods of evaluation.
At the end of the day, student pairs were formed to select topics for their future workshops for simulation and school practice. Some of the proposed topics include: “What do we mean by gender?”, “Expressing your own feelings”, “Act like a man, act like a woman”, “What is violence?”, and “Power and relationships.”
This first workshop marked the beginning of a dynamic process through which students will, over the coming weeks, test their skills, exchange experiences, and develop the professional identity of future teachers and educators.
This activity was carried out as part of the Future4Youth project, implemented by Spin in cooperation with CARE Balkans and funded by the Marie Eberth Stiftung Foundation.
