Ministry of Education, Youth, Science, Culture and Sport of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton (BPC) accredited on 5 December 2018 Program Y (Youth) – Innovative Approaches in the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence and the Promotion of Healthier Lifestyles.
Program Y was derived from the research and the long-time work of CARE International and its partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Association XY, Perpetuum Mobile, and Youth Power) and the region.
By accrediting the Program Y, the Ministry of Education, Youth, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton, provided access to the best educational program in our region and in Europe for the students of secondary schools in this Canton. The Association XY will, with the support of CARE International, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Pedagogical Institute of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton, carry out training for teachers, which is part of the comprehensive preparation of professional staff to apply the most modern pedagogical methods in the prevention of violence and promotion of youth health.
It is worth mentioning that the representatives of both institutions initiated the development of additional material for students, which is a valuable contribution to the development of the now globally known and recognized one of the top 10 educational programs in the world and Europe. During the first half of 2019, attention will be paid to developing the competencies of teaching staff and the capacity of schools to independently implement a science-based and proven effective Program Y, and starting from the school year 2019/2020 seven topics will be included in the teaching process during the homeroom classes for students of the first and second grades of all secondary schools in the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton.
In addition to Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, this is the second canton in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in which the Program Y is accredited as a mandatory program in schools, while in the Canton Sarajevo and the Republic of Srpska, Program Y is licensed and implemented in a number of secondary schools and experimentally in primary schools.
