In February 2024, Veles, North Macedonia, CARE and CRPM hosted a transformative Training of Trainers (ToT) session, aimed at equipping peer educators from local CSOs with the skills to promote gender equality and prevent violence. CARE Balkans designed intensive three-day training that covered essential topics for implementation of Program Y and M, including gender identity, healthy relationships, and violence prevention.
The program, based on the proven methodologies implemented across the Balkans provided participants with practical tools to foster respectful relationships and address violence among youth. Through interactive sessions, they explored topics like gender norms, peer-to-peer education, and effective methods for managing emotions, such as anger—crucial areas for young men facing societal pressures. Participants also practiced delivering workshops, focusing on hands-on application and group collaboration.
Peer educators from various municipalities, including Skopje, Gostivar, and Tetovo, actively participated, strengthening their abilities to serve as facilitators in their communities. After receiving certification, these trained facilitators returned to their communities, empowered to create safer, more respectful environments in schools and communities across North Macedonia as a part of broader initiative implemented by CRPM – Young Men Initiative in GBV Prevention in North Macedonia II.
Next steps for project implementation adaptation of Program Y manual, further testing and implementation of methodology in 9 local communities along with establishments of Be a Man Clubs across North Macedonia.
Project is funded by Embassy of the Netherlands in North Macedonia and implemented by CRPM in partnership with CARE Balkans, and youth organizations selected through a competitive process.
