Public action “My five against violence!” which was organized by the Centre E8, Be a Man Club, Youth Office Vračar and Gender Equality Office Vračar was held on Monday, 15 December 2014.
A few hundred young people took part in this action that was held in Slavija. On this occasion, gathered young people invited their peers and all the young people to sign and support the Declaration “My five against violence!” that was made on the big canvas by leaving their handprints on it. The Declaration calls on young people to recognize all types of violence, abuse and harassment, to recognize the importance of education about violence, violence prevention and the fight for human rights, and to be actively involved in the promotion of non-violence, tolerance, equality and fight against all forms of violence. With music and a great atmosphere, materials were distributed and messages and values of Be a man Club were promoted, i.e. values of non-violence, gender equality and healthy lifestyles.
Actions of Be a man clubs were held in 12 towns in Serbia during the period of 16 days of activism of fight against violence against women, and there were over 20 public actions. Activities of Be a man Clubs were supported by CARE International, Austrian Development Agency, UNICEF Office in Serbia as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia. The “Be a man” program is implemented by the Centre E8, which is part of the regional network called Young Men Initiative, as well as the global network called MenEngage, which gathers NGOs and UN agencies with the aim of engaging boys and men in the fight against violence and promotion of gender equality.
